Welcome to Year 2
Our classes are 2 Spain and 2 France.
This half term, our topic is The Victorians.
In English, we will be reading 'You Wouldn't Want to be a Victorian Miner' by John Malam and David Antram and 'The V+A Introduces: Queen Victoria'. We will be focusing on writing personal recounts, biographies and narratives.
We are preparing for our end of Key Stage One Reading assessment with comprehension practice on a range of text types in our Reading sessions daily, as well as continuing to reinforce our secure phonic knowledge.
In Foundation, we will be looking at the Victorian period in History; putting events in chronological order and comparing school life in the Victorian times to modern-day schooling.
In Science we will be exploring the human life cycle and the way humans change over time.
In Art we will be focusing on the work of Monet and taking a trip to the National Gallery to see his watercolours, as well as creating our own Victorian-style portraits.
In Maths, we will be doing Statistics and Position and Direction, as well as revising some key concepts from Year 2 to prepare ourselves for the end of Key Stage One Maths assessment.

Homework:

Resources such as J2e and Busy Things can be accessed by typing 'LGFL My USO' into your browser and using your child's logons which are sent home near the beginning of term.
On J2e, click on shared folders to see the class and this will show you activities for the children to complete. You can write straight onto the documents and then to save just press the back arrow in the top left hand corner.

Reading:
Children should be reading at least 10-15 minutes a day. Please remember to sign your child's reading journal every day - they will be given a certificate for reading every day!
