Welcome from our Head Teacher

A very warm welcome to St. James’ Church of England Primary School, Bermondsey.

I am deeply proud of our highly inclusive, creative, diverse and vibrant school. Along with a hugely supportive and dedicated staff team, we put the needs of our children and community at the centre of all we do, encouraging all children to fulfil their very best potential.

Our whole school vision - ‘Let Your Light Shine’ - is taken from Matthew 5:16 and encapsulates our shared passion and belief in the unique quality and ability of every individual. Our aim is to ensure that the talents and strengths of each child in our care are nurtured, encouraged, developed and celebrated. As a Church of England school, we are deeply Christian in our approach to school life, all the while welcoming children of all backgrounds, cultures and faiths, and therefore have a wonderfully harmonious school community where we believe everybody has the right to be heard and to develop in an environment of mutual respect.

We are a large primary school, based over two sites in Bermondsey, and capitalise upon all the wonderful things London has to offer – attending as many trips and educational visits as possible to enhance our learning. We value all aspects of the primary curriculum and offer a broad and stimulating education for our children which is informed by their individual interests and talents. We offer specialist music (violin, recorder, ocarina and singing), Physical Education and Performing Arts lessons to encourage children to explore these skills and become confident, healthy, and articulate learners for life.

I feel immensely privileged to be Head Teacher at St. James’, to be able to build upon the strengths of our happy and confident pupils, our highly skilful and approachable staff team, and strong working relationship with parents and carers, from which the whole community benefits.

I hope that the website will provide an insight into the caring, holistic Christian community that is St. James’ – we warmly welcome interest in joining our school and encourage visitors by appointment to see for yourself our beautiful learning environment at both sites.

On behalf of all our Governors and school staff, we look forward to welcoming and working with you and your child; and being able to fulfil our commitment to their personal, academic and spiritual development.
